What to Expect
Welcome. Attending a new church for the first time can be an intimidating process. In addition to some of the emotional anxiety we may encounter, there are logistical questions that we bring with us. Our Deacons, Deaconess and Get Acquainted members are expecting you and can assist you with any questions you may have. However, the following questions and answers may also be helpful as you anticipate your first experience at Mount Airy Baptist Church. Be sure to identify yourself when requested for us to properly greet you and share important information.
You will find a warm, friendly congregation waiting to welcome
you. Regardless of your nationality, income level, education level, or
occupation in life, there is a place for you and your family in our church
family.
Our Sunday Morning Worship service is one hour and thirty minutes long for 7:30 am and two hours long for the 10:45 am service and includes congregational singing, special music, and the
preaching and teaching of God's Word, the Bible.
What is a Baptist church?
As an independent
Baptist church, we are not affiliated with any particular Baptist denomination
or ruling body. Because of this we can support our own missionaries, select our
own leaders, and support institutions that believe as we believe. In short, our
church answers to the headship of Jesus Christ rather than a denominational
body.
I'm not a Baptist... Can I still attend?
Absolutely! Every week we have guests from different denominations – and some with no church background – in our services. Our goal is not to make Baptists out of everyone, but to lead people into a personal relationship with God.
Will I feel welcome at
Mount Airy Church?
Yes. It is our hope
that anyone from any walk of life will feel welcome at Mount Airy.
Will I have to stand
up in front of people?
Guests are asked to
stand up, but it’s not mandatory! Prior to the start of our worship experience, we request
individuals or families identify themselves to the Church body.
Following your introduction, we offer a special welcome to our
visitors. At that time, members of our Get Acquainted ministry and
others will greet you with smiling faces and offer information about our
Church and answer any questions you may have.
What should I wear to church?
We do not have a "dress code" at our church. Wear what
you already have in your closet. You will see some people "dressed
up" in the their "Sunday best" and some will be dressed more
causally. More important than what you wear is that you come with a honest and
open heart.
Do I have to bring a Bible?
We believe the Bible is God's only Word for us today and is the
instruction manual for this life and all eternity. There are Bibles in each row that are within arm's reach of your seat during the church
service in case you didn't bring one.
Will I be asked to give money?
Giving an offering is simply an act of worship and obedience for
the folks who call Mount Airy their church home. As a visitor, your just being
here is enough. So please don't feel obligated to give when the offering
baskets are passed, unless you freely desire to do so.
Do you offer spiritual counseling?
Most of life's problems and issues can be solved by simply
applying the Biblical truths given during the regular church services. However,
if you have spiritual questions or spiritual problems that need more personal
attention, please feel free to contact the Pastoral Care & Counseling Center to schedule a time to
meet with a counselor.
Do you have a Children’s
Church?
Yes. We have a great
Children’s Church ministry that meets every Sunday morning. Our goal is to
provide all children ages 5-12 with a meaningful worship experience! For more
information, check out our Children’s Ministry
page.
Yes. We have a dynamic youth ministry called Christ Centered Young People (CCYP) led by our Youth Ministry Leader, Shauna Odom. Our youth (7th-12th grade) meet every Friday night at 6:30 pm for Youth Group and Discipleship Training. For more information, check out the Youth Ministry page.
