Important Voting Information for DMV

As we approach the election season, we want to keep our members aware of important information regarding the upcoming local and national elections.  Please feel free to share with family and friends.
 
Voting Reminders:
Check your status to make sure you are registered to vote.  Tuesday, September 22 is National Voter Registration Day.
Mark your calendar/your phone for important election day deadlines.
Know where your voting center is located.
Vote for the entire party ticket – Know something about the candidates running for office in your city/town.
 
 
District of Columbia Voting Information
 
November General Election – Tuesday, November 3, 2020
(Polling hours are from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
  As long as a voter is in line by 7:00 p.m., the voter will be able to vote.)
 
 
Voter Registration Deadline
All voter registration applications and updates submitted online and by mail must be received by the Board of Elections no later than the 21st day before the election in which you wish to vote. If you submit a voter registration application or update online or by mail and it is received after the 21st day before the election, your application will not be processed until after the election.
 
If you submit your application in person at the Board of Elections or another voter registration agency, your application should be received no later than the day before the start of the early voting period. To learn about key dates and deadlines in the upcoming election cycle, please visit www.dcboe.org. 
 
Early Voting
Vote Centers will open Tuesday, October 27, 2020, through Monday, November 2, 2020, from 8:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
On November 3, 2020 (Election Day), Vote Centers will open from 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
 
Absentee Ballot
Deadline to request an absentee ballot must be received no later than the 7th day before each election.
 
Mail Ballot Drop Box
You may drop off your voted mail ballot in ANY Ballot Drop Box at ANY time, before 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, November 3, 2020.
 
Note:  Your ballot must be postmarked or otherwise demonstrated to have been sent on or before Election Day and must arrive no later than the 10th day after Election Day.

Maryland Voting Information

Early Voting
You can vote early at your local registrar’s office beginning Monday, October 26, 2020 through Monday, November 2, 2020.   Please check the hours of your local office.  Some localities provide additional locations for early voting.
 
Mail-in Ballots
The State Board of Elections will automatically send all eligible voters an application for a mail-in ballot by first class U.S Mail. The application comes with a postage-paid return envelope to make it easy and free to request your ballot. Deadline to request a mail-in ballot to be mailed to you is 5:00 p.m. Friday, October 20, 2020.
 
We are urging all Marylanders to return their ballots as soon as possible due to backlogs at the U.S. Postal Service.  Mail-in ballots must be postmarked or placed in a designated drop box by 8:00 pm, Tuesday, November 3, 2020.

Virginia Voting Information
 
November General Election – Tuesday, November 3, 2020
(Polling hours are from 6:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
  As long as a voter is in line by 7:00 p.m., the voter will be able to vote.)
 
Virginia law requires you to show one acceptable ID to vote.
 
Voter Registration Deadline
Deadline to register to vote or update an existing registration is Tuesday, October 13, 2020.
 
Early Voting
You can vote early at your local registrar’s office beginning 45 days before Election Day and ending on Saturday, October 31, 2020 before Election Day.  Please check the hours of your local office.  Some localities provide additional locations for early voting.
 
Absentee Ballot
Deadline to request an absentee ballot to be mailed to you is 5:00 p.m. Friday, October 23, 2020.
Deadline to request absentee ballot by appearing in person by 5:00 p.m. by Saturday, October 31, 2020.
 
Note:  To voters using US mail service:  the USPS delivery standards changed last year so that First Class delivery went from 1-3 days to 2-5 days and Standard delivery is now 2-9 days.  Please keep this in mind, as the ballot must be received by your local general registrar no later than 12:00 PM on the third day following Election Day.  Having the ballot postmarked by the deadline does not count if the ballot is still received after the deadline.
