Under girded with a strong spiritual foundation and fortified with a personal commitment to and continual study of God’s Word, First Lady Gwen K. West, bears witness to the faithfulness of a mighty God. It is the life mission of First Lady West to be counted among the faithful as she walks in submission to her Sovereign Savior. 

 

First Lady West shares in the undeniable call of her husband to the Gospel ministry.  At the Mount Airy Baptist Church, she serves as the ministry leader of the Women's Ministry and teaches an adult Sunday School class.  Prior to joining the Mount Airy Baptist Church, First Lady West served diligently at the First Baptist Church of Guilford located in Columbia, MD and at the New Light Missionary Baptist Church located in Washington, D.C.  As a member, it was her privilege to teach and serve as Superintendent of the Church School, Director and teacher of Vacation Bible School, and work with the Missionary Ministry.  She has also served as the president of the Ministers’ Wives and Widows Auxiliary of the National Capital Baptist Convention of Washington, DC and Vicinity. She continues to be an active supporter of their efforts.

 

First Lady West has been employed with Howard County Government located in Ellicott City, MD, since August 1988. She is a Senior Administrative Analyst in the Office of Human Resources where she works with EEO issues, facilitates the County's Diversity Initiative and is also a Liaison to several departments assisting with personnel issues.

 

The touchstone of her life at work, at home and at church is being of service to God and to His people. Loved and respected by many, her life’s journey is “O taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man that trusteth in Him.” (Psalm 34:8)
